Updated: Dec 19, 2024

We're approaching the end of our 3rd Giving Cycle, where we have raised money from July-December with regular giving from our donors around Queensland and Australia. Excitingly, this means we're selecting our newest partner!

Partner applications recently closed, and our Advisory Committee met to assess these applications in Early December. Our advisory committee assessed partner applications in response to 4 key criteria, as well a undertaken by our team. These criteria are explained below:

The Advisory Committee reviewed the applications, then met for a shortlisting meeting to discuss early thoughts. After the meeting, each committee member individually scored the applicants against the criteria.

This scoring process left us with a shortlist of 2 amazing partners - Purple House and Smart Recovery Australia:

Purple House

Purple House, or Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation, is a non-profit Aboriginal community-controlled health service based in Alice Springs looking after people on dialysis from remote communities across the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. They run 17 clinics and 1 mobile clinic called the "Purple Truck", which enables patients with end-stage renal failure the chance to continue their dialysis whilst attending important cultural or family duties such as sorry business.

They hope to use One For Health funding to contribute to their Primary Health Care (PHC) service, a culturally safe space with wrap around services for patients and their families who have relocated to Alice Springs for treatment

PHC has become a space where patients can get a cuppa or toastie, have a shower, do some exercise, sit around the fire, cook damper or kangaroo tails while they wait to see a GP, nurse or allied health professional. The team also run weekly ladies and men’s exercise classes as well as health education and wellbeing days.

Smart Recovery Australia

Smart Recovery are a charity that delivers a four-step, secular, evidence-based recovery program focused on harm minimisation and self-management. Their programs support individuals facing substance dependencies or problematic behaviors, as well as their families and broader support networks. Working with priority populations, including Youth and First Nations communities, they design culturally appropriate supports that address the social determinants influencing recovery.

They commenced in Australia in 2004 and today partner with over 75 organisations and have reached over 130, 000 Australians!

Smart Recovery have identified a gap in GP awareness of their service. They have capacity to provide free evidence-based, secular, and stigma-free options for patients but GP referrers lack awareness of the program! With OFH funding, they hope to develop and distribute tailored physical materials for clinics to provide to patients, reinforcing referral pathways and improving access to their services for vulnerable people around Australia.

What's Next

Voting is open now until December 31 - all givers have received an email with a link to vote for they'd like our funding to be directed!

While voting is open, we will continue to provide information about these exceptional groups. While we can't give money to all applicants, we aim to celebrate and promote awareness of all the incredible work being done to tackle health inequity in our community!

Our GC3 partner will be announced in early January, shortly followed by an official donation from One For Health.

We look forward to keeping you updated as we wrap up GC3 and commence GC4, which will run January-June 2025!
