good health isn't shared by all.
We live in a society more healthy than ever. BUT...
...health inequity in Australia, and our global community, is complex and multidimensional.
Whilst not always effectively reported, health inequity is obvious and tangible in our everyday work as doctors and in the broader community.
Health inequity is avoidable.
We can make a difference.
We know there are a range of impactful organisations working to address health inequity in Australia and beyond. At One For Health, we have personal experience in seeing these organisations at work. We want to celebrate and support the innovative work already being done!
Medical schools are full of people passionate about a career where they can change people’s lives for the better - we understand this first hand!
Too often, transitioning to work in hospitals limits our ability to engage with this passion- but as junior doctors, we have a unique ability to understand the problem, and have the resources to make things better.
We are particularly concerned by health inequity affecting:
-
First Nations Australians
-
Communities based on gender
-
Areas of socioeconomic disadvantage, including people experiencing homelessness, incarceration and vulnerability
-
Areas of geographic disadvantage - particularly regional and rural Australians
-
Multicultural communities and refugees
-
Young People
Our Values
Community
-
We see the potential in our cohorts of junior doctors - bringing people together and connecting them to the causes they care about
-
We can give better together - concentrating our energy amplifies our ability to do good
Collaboration
-
We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel; we help and work with people already doing great things
-
We collaborate with donors, advisors and experts to achieve the best outcomes
Transparency
-
We are transparent in how we do things
-
We don’t overcomplicate things
-
People can be confident giving money to, and receiving money from, One For Health
-
We don’t have all the answers - we’re on a journey to do the best we can.
