As Giving Cycle 5 comes to a close, we’re excited to share our shortlisted organisations and announce a small change in how we’re giving this cycle. We're giving better, together- with a giver-led evolution!
Since One For Health began in 2023, our community of early-career doctors has raised over $70,000 to support organisations tackling health inequity. Giving Cycle 5 marks our largest donation to date, and for the first time, it will include two separate donations - both of which will be made.
Our latest voting round is now open and closes on Sunday, 11 January - all current givers have received an email with all relevant information!
What’s new this giving cycle?
For Giving Cycle 5, we’re trialling a two-donation model:
🌱 $15,000 Local Legend Donation
🌍 $4,000 Global Impact Donation
Each donation is selected from a separate shortlist, allowing us to support both locally grounded Australian organisations and high-impact global health initiatives.
This change was introduced in response to feedback from our community, with the aim of broadening the scope of our giving while staying true to our mission.

🌱 Local Legend Donation — $15,000
Our Local Legend shortlist is made up of Australian organisations working directly in local communities. These partners submitted an application and were shortlisted by our Advisory Committee in early December — the same process we’ve used since our very first giving cycle.
Shortlisted organisations:
Supporting isolated rural health workers to remain in their communities.
Providing free eye health and optometry services for vulnerable populations.
🌍 Global Impact Donation — $4,000
The Global Impact shortlist is made up of established international charities delivering evidence-based, cost-effective interventions in global health settings.
This shortlist was selected by Advisory Committee Chair Dr Bethany Holt, using a list curated by The Life You Can Save, a well-regarded independent charity evaluator.
Shortlisted organisations:
Funding restorative surgery for women living with obstetric fistulas in sub-Saharan Africa.
Delivering malaria chemoprevention for children under five in marginalised, malaria-endemic communities.
Why trial this approach?
Adding a Global Impact donation allows us to:
Support an additional organisation each cycle
Back highly effective global health work that wouldn’t typically apply through our local partner process
Respond directly to feedback from our community
This is not necessarily the new normal - it’s a trial, and we’ll be guided by community feedback in deciding how Giving Cycle 6 and beyond will look.
We look forward to seeing the outcome of this giving cycle - in the meantime, we'd love to hear from you if you have questions, ideas, or feedback on how we can continue to make giving impactful for you!
Cheers,
Ollie
